The Dodington Parish beacon at Shireway Community Centre, Yate, was lit on Sunday 11th November to mark 100 years since the end of World War 1 (also known as Armistice).  The lighting of the beacon heralded the end of a day of events in the local area to commemorate Armistice.  We were joined by members of the Bristol Veterans Brass Band, who played the National Anthem and Last Post.  Chairman of Dodington Parish Council, Cllr Dave Lane lit the beacon at 7:00pm, after which Shireway Community Centre welcomed everyone inside for refreshments.  We were also joined by Val Robinson, who is the artist that designed the shire horse that hangs alongside the basket of the beacon.

Thank you to all that came to join us, to the committee and staff at Shireway Community Centre for hosting the event and to the Bristol Veterans Brass Band.  A big thank you also to members of the 1st Raysfield Scout Group who helped to marshal at the event.
