Garden waste collections to resume across South Gloucestershire

Garden waste collections will resume in South Gloucestershire on 27 April after being temporarily suspended due to staff shortages during the coronavirus outbreak.

The changes enabled us to continue with black bin waste and recycling collections with staff and vehicles usually being used to collect garden waste being switched to essential waste collections.

Sort It recycling centres will remain closed with recycling collections on a fortnightly basis for the time-being, but we are now able to restart garden waste collections using hire vehicles and staff redeployed from our StreetCare team.

Cabinet Member for Communities, Cllr Rachael Hunt said: “I am pleased to say that we will be reintroducing garden waste collections from the 27 April and we will be extending the subscriptions of all of those active on, or after the 23 March so no one loses out for the period when the changes were in place.

“I’d like to thank our collection crews and the staff who have been redeployed from other roles to support them. We have been doing everything we can to continue with essential waste collections and I would like to thank people for their patience and praise the staff that have been working flat-out during these difficult times to ensure we can continue to collect waste and recycling.”

All garden waste subscriptions active on or after 23 March 2020 will be extended by five weeks to cover the collections missed while the service was suspended.

We will be writing to people to inform them of the updates and further information about our service is available at www.southglos.gov.uk/gardenwasteservice.

We will do everything we can to collect garden waste as scheduled. If not, please let us know on the following day by reporting it at www.southglos.gov.uk/reportit.
