Information on Covid-19 Surge Testing – SGC

**Update 10/02/20** – Surge testing site opening in Yate and two local pick-up/drop-off points

A community surge testing site is opening today at Yate Common on Westerleigh Road. This is in addition to the site at Bristol and Bath Science Park, plus others in Bristol. People who live or work in the BS37 8 postcode area, who are over 16 and do not have symptoms of Covid-19, are encouraged to get a one-off PCR test to support community surge testing in Bristol and South Gloucestershire. The testing sites are open 9am – 6pm seven days a week.
Also, two new collect and drop home test centres have been announced – Shireway Community Centre in Yate (opening today) and Westerleigh Village Hall (opening Thursday 11 February).

You may have heard on the news or read in the press over the weekend that Public Health England (PHE) – working closely with Bristol City Council and South Gloucestershire Council (SGC) have announced further postcodes where they will be carrying out ‘Surge’ testing for the new ‘Kent Variant’ of the coronavirus.

Within South Gloucestershire one of the postcode areas is BS37 8.  This is outskirts of Yate, Westerleigh and Wapley.

If you live off Shire Way in Yate – you are one of the affected postcodes and anyone in your household who is over 16 years of age should take a test.

The link above gives further details on how to go about this…..and further information on testing and booking for tests, etc. will be announced by SGC tomorrow – 9th February 2021 (as they recognise that not everyone will be able to get to one of the rapid test sites that have been set up).

If you want to visit one of these new test sites – at the moment – you don’t have to book – you can just turn up.

ALSO

You must not visit one of these sites if you are displaying symptoms of Covid-19.  If you think you may have Covid-19 then please book a test in the usual way.

Again all of this information is available linked to the SGC webpage above.

If you are worried or have any queries you can contact the Parish Council, who will sign post you accordingly.
