The Council is currently supporting some exciting projects to enhance the lives of children and young people in our Parish.
Summer Play Scheme
Our ever popular FREE open access Summer Playshceme will be running again this year.
For Children from the age of 5 to 11, the Playscheme offers hours of fun during the first four weeks of the long Summer holiday. all sessions are run on a first come first serve basis. At the end of last year's Summer Playscheme the Council asked our customers for their opininon of the play sessions. an overwhelming number of families asked for us to run a single longer session per day instead of two shorter sessions.
Our opening times this year will be 9.30am to 1.15pm with sessions run at Dodington Parish Hall, Finch Road, Chipping Sodbury from Monday to Friday between 25 July and 5 August and at Abbotswood Primary School, Kelston Close, Yate from Monday to Friday between 8 to 19 August.
St Nicholas Youth Centre - saved for another year
Aspart of South Gloucestershire Council's cost cutting exercise, St Nicholas Youth Centre in Abbotswood, Yate was faced with 65% reduction in their funidng during 2011/12.
In Partnership with the Mangement Committee of the Youth Centre and Yate Town Council, we stepped in to challenge the cuts which would have had a devastating effect on youth provision in our North West Ward. As a result South Gloucestershire Council have confirmed that funding is safe for the next financial year, giving the Youth Centre time to plan for the future.
Joint Parishes Youth Forum
In Partnership with Yate Town Council and South Gloucestershire Council, we have worked to establish the Armadillo Youth Cafe which opened in April 2011.
