Dodington Parish Council

Dodington Parish lies around 12 miles north east of Bristol and 16 miles north west of Bath, and it is within the unitary authority of South Gloucestershire. With a population of around 8,600 our Parish is made up of three wards – the North East Ward covers the ‘Birds’ estate in the Chipping Sodbury postal area, the North West Ward covers the Shire Way estate in Yate postal area and our South Ward covers a large rural area including the villages of Dodington, Codrington and Wapley.

The Parish Council owns or leases a range of facilities:

  • Dodington Parish Hall, Finch Road – a heavily used community hall which also houses the Council Office
  • Lilliput Park – a formal park with a recently modernised play area in the NE Ward. The Park has a recently reformed Friends Group which carries out work mornings.
  • Woodchester Park – a play area in the NW ward.
  • Goldcrest Park – a small play area in the NE Ward.
  • Queen Elizabeth II Playing Fields, Kelston Close – football pitches, a Multi-Use Games Area and recently refurbished changing rooms.
  • Wapley Bushes Local Nature Reserve – managed for conservation, education and recreation by the Wapley Bushes Conservation Group. The Reserve is very popular for informal recreation with residents of all ages.
  • Wapley Common – an adjoining area mainly managed for recreation, plus a young community orchard area and a picnic field.
  • Wapley Allotments – 120 allotments on two sites, one of which has recently been extended. Managed by the Dodington Allotment Association.

Monitoring on Roads

HGV monitoring on local roads

Dodington Parish Council have recently received this update from Cllr Claire Young regarding HGV monitoring.

Monitoring will be carried out in September as part of the investigation into a possible 7.5T environmental weight limit on the roads leading from the B4465 to Dodington Road.

The number and type of vehicles using the roads will be logged at a number of locations using wires across the roads. The monitoring counters also measure vehicle speeds for census purposes only and not enforcement. It will be done in September, after the peak holiday period, because this will give a better idea of how the roads are used typically. The data will help highways officials at South Gloucestershire Council make a decision about introducing a weight limit.

If a weight limit was introduced, heavy goods vehicles that need to access properties within the limit would still be able to use the roads.

Dodington Bridge Road Closure

Do you use the Dodington Road bridge near Chipping Sodbury School? Do you realise that it will be closed for a couple of weeks later this year?

At the Frome Vale Area Forum, Network Rail gave a brief update on their plans for increasing the height of the parapets on the railway bridge on Dodington Road, near Chipping Sodbury School.

The bridge will be closed to vehicles from 23 May to 5 June 2016 to enable them to safely carry out the work. This will followed by a series of Saturday night closures, on 28th May, 4th, 11th, 18th and 25th June and 2nd July. A pathway will be kept open for pedestrians and (dismounted) cyclists and horseriders.
